Ikea Baby Boy Nursery

A much anticipated new arrival to the House of Hawkes brood has us all hyped-up. We are on baby-watch as we speak – waiting, waiting to hear of the new little guy’s arrival. But unlike Mila’s nursery last year, which we literally threw together at the 11th hour – with awesome results I might add – we were a little more organised this time around in helping our dear colleague Britt get ready for baby’s arrival.

It certainly helped that IKEA, and Jotun, two of our favourite brands, were keen to jump in and help us with this fun little project. When we told IKEA that were were planning a special space for our new mommy-to-be, they challenged us to an all-IKEA design and whilst that’s not our usual style – we really prefer to mix things up a lot – you know we don’t back down from a challenge.

The goal was to create a cozy, neutral and minimal space for our new little guy. We had taken a sneak peek at Britt’s nursery pinterest board and had a good idea for the direction we wanted the room to take. We started off by painting the room a really fabulous shade of grey called Comfort Grey by Jotun. The VONSBÄK rug was the starting point. We had already spotted this green rug online and loved the touch of vintage style it brings to the room, not to mention the pop of colour in the otherwise monochrome space. The HEMNES chest of drawers is an ideal furniture piece to double as a changing station while baby is still little. It features loads of storage space and the countertop is the perfect width and height for a changing pad. The SNIGLAR cot was a no-brainer choice, not only is this raw wood cot with the simplest of design styles pleasing to the eye but it is non-toxic as no nasties are used in it’s production. Although lightweight, it is remarkably sturdy and easy to assemble and adjust. It offers two base heights and can be converted to a toddler bed with one side removed.

Keeping in mind that the new mama will log countless hours in the chair, feeding, shushing, singing and reading to her new babe, we needed something ridiculously comfortable, so we opted for the FÄRLÖV. We’ve used this arm chair in nurseries before and it gets rave reviews, not only for it’s comfort, but the removable, washable covers are really practical for a feeding chair. Lastly we wanted to add a touch of greenery, but knowing that Britt’s focus would be centred on the baby, and not a new plant, we decided to fake it with the FEJKA faux fiddle leaf.

So there you have it, with the exception of just a few accessories (including some really special ones like dad’s vintage toys) we put together an all-IKEA nursery design and have created a shop the look so that you can do it too!

May this new found space create many memories of late night feeds, baby settling techniques, tears, smiles and uncontrollable laughter. Check out the shop the look below:
