Christmas table styling | shop the look

09/12/2018

In a recent post, we created a set of printable stationery for your Christmas gifts and table settings and to photograph the items, we set up a festive tablescape in my dining room. We really enjoyed the process and loved the outcome, so we thought it would be nice to share some of images with ideas for decorating the table and dining room for your own Christmas entertaining. We wanted to give the dining room a festive ambiance…

Printable Christmas Stationery Set 2018

04/12/2018

Designing a set of free printable Christmas gift tags for you, our lovely readers and social media followers, has become somewhat of a tradition around here. With the exception of last year (and I’m not even sure what happened there), I have put out a set from the very beginning in 2013 through 2014, 2015 and 2016. It’s quite interesting to look back at the style evolution over the years. As any reliable advent calendar will tell you, Christmas is just…

Bosch Quigo: Decorating made easy

25/04/2017

Hands up anyone who’s had a DIY decor project that narrowly escaped ending in divorce. I know I’ve been there. Possibly more than once. Truth be told, the hubster and I are actually a pretty good team with most things, but somehow DIY projects always tend to get a little, shall we say, heated.  I don’t know what it is about putting a hole in the wall, but there always seems to be misplacement of said hole (despite intricate measurements), followed by a lot…

Monoshop: DIY Calendar

02/04/2017

I have for some time now been a fan of Monoshop, a South Africa based, Scandinavian style online store selling a small but beautiful collection of furniture and homewares. I have raved about them here on the blog before (see here), but this time around, it’s a more personal scenario. Petro at Monoshop recently reached out to me to ask if I would be interested in doing a guest blog post to feature their free printable calendar for the month of…

DIY 3-D Ornaments

21/12/2016

If you’re a regular around here, you may have noticed that I never get too wild with my DIY projects – I like to things super simple. It’s basically my DIY motto. For this most recent project, I kept it so simple, I wasn’t even involved. I can actually take no credit for this one because it was done by my colleague, the lovely Charly, and all I did was snap away while she created. And it took her a grand total of…

Let’s paint the town with magic chalk paint!

15/10/2016

During the summer I attended a workshop at the Falaknaz Warehouse – an introduction to the “Annie Sloan Method”. This workshop covered the basics of what you’d need to know when attempting your first foray into the world of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It is called chalk paint because of its beautiful velvety, matt finish. The magic of this paint is that it rarely requires any prep work (because honestly, prep work is enough to put anyone off…

DIY Father’s Day snack pack

04/06/2016

I’m surprisingly well prepared for Father’s Day this year. I’m not entirely sure how that came about, since I’ve been feeling particularly frantic lately, but then who am I to question such a formidable show of diligence (LOL!) – let’s just roll with it. Truth be told, I’ve seen a bunch of cute stuff for Father’s Day on Pinterest in the past few days, and since I do so love a bit of customised stationery, I thought why not try a…

Kintsugi: the art of un-breaking ceramics

23/01/2016

I think we’ve all had that moment when a special cup, vase or plate has been accidentally knocked and broken and made you want to cry, or say a bunch of swear words in front of the smalls… have kids they said, it’ll be fun they said… In a desperate attempt to fix your shattered possesion, you reach for the superglue that promises to bond any material together. Forever. You struggle for at least ten minutes to get the wretched lid off and finally…

  • Who even knew a plywood cabinet could look so beautiful!? Or that there 2 IKEA besta frames hidden below those fronts, sides and top?? Its a @fronteriors magic trick! 🧙‍♂️🤭
  • Our second @fronteriors product shoot is happening in two parts this week and we’re beyond excited to share this new batch of fronteriors products with you! You’ve all seen and loved the BILLY cabinet with cane doors, but now you get to meet his big brother – a wider, deeper and all round sexier cane cabinet made up of two BESTA frames supported on our custom metal leg frame. Two cane doors, two sides and one top complete the look of what is probably one of our personal favourite combinations. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks later on this this week.

  • Lazy Saturdays.... for some.
  • We've got double doggie trouble around here for a few days as Pep's sister, Jessie, is stay with us while her humans (also our humans) are in South Africa.
  • Waking up to music is a good way to start the day. Although Pepper's not still not sure what's happening in here when the beat drops... 😂 there's always a frantic little bark like someone's coming for her. Cray cray pup!

  • Around this time last year I was working on a secret makeover project for Kaitlyn's bedroom. She went to school with much resistance on the morning of her birthday and came home to a different room. The reaction was priceless! But seriously, where has a whole year gone? #timeflies #kidspo
  • Loved seeing this room we designed last year featured over at @mintymagazine today. Despite it being a little over a year ago, it seems like a lifetime ago. Makes.you realise how much happens in a year and how quickly it goes.
  • That time we kitted all the @houseofhawkes smalls out in the cool new @piupiuchick collection from @martin_and_ella - I think it was one of the last mornings that you could be outdoors without actually melting, so I guess it was well timed. ☀️🔥🕶🤩

  • Say hello to my new toy, the B&O M5 wireless speaker.  She’s busting out the tunes whilst ticking all the aesthetic and audio quality boxes, looking ever so pretty amidst this re-styled corner of my bedroom. She’s destined for our holiday home in South Africa this summer (we’ve been on the hunt for a good wireless speaker for some time), but in the meantime I’m really enjoying having music in our bedroom again. I think my last source of audio in the bedroom was a clock radio!! Er, who remembers those?

In other news, the hubster is at an event this evening and I’m about to pop my podcast cherry (true story!) and I’m looking for recommendations, please. I’m yet to download a single episode, if that’s even what we call them, but I’ve got the audio situation on fleek. Kids and neighbours may be listening in too! I’m a strong case for the term ‘all the gear and no idea’, so please indulge me with your suggestions with what’s good in the podcast arena. I want to get tonight’s party started.
