Fronteriors is open for business

26/05/2019

Last month I shared the exciting news about Fronteriors with you all. Remember that new business venture I am embarking on with my dear friend and fellow crazy, er, I mean stylist, Linda Dekkers (aka LiveLoudGirl)? Taking our collaborative creativity to the next level is proving to be rather a lot of work, particularly on top of the usual House of Hawkes project load, but thankfully neither of us are the type to back down from a personal challenge, so it’s full steam ahead on the Fronteriors front. I think we can safely say that the realisation of this ‘project’ is like a dream for both of us, so it’s worth all the proverbial blood, sweat and tears.

Almost two weeks ago, we hauled all our sample pieces into the beautiful 8th Street Studios for our very first Fronteriors product shoot. Seeing all the designs we have worked on literally come to life as we put the various configurations together that day was a really special milestone for us. None of it could not have happened without a lot of help from our friends in the trade – to whom we are forever grateful. Our superstar, Marli, was behind the camera lens and the energetic Jelle Leeksma from Yalla Yalla Media was there to assist with some video content for our website tutorials. Jelle has also put together a fun behind the scenes video of the day that is going to make an awesome keepsake for us in years to come. The lovely Kristin Nystrom, stylist and photographer extraordinaire, was on hand to style Linda and I while we posed for a quick picture or two for the website… feeling ever like the fish out of water that I am when a lens is on me!

The Jotun team were also there in full support, as always, painting studio walls in our favourite shades, and our friends at Nordic Homeworx even arrived with a spectacular Kรคhrs wood floor that I needed to be physically separated from at the end of the day. We had also had our pick of some beautiful accessories from The Bowery Company and Home & Soul. Lucky us!

So, here we are giving you a first look at the Fronteriors designs. It’s not yet the full collection, but it’s what we have available for now and we are so excited to be offering you the possibility of making stylish, quality furniture at a reasonable price. Our collection of fronts, handles, legs, sides and tops are designed to fit IKEAโ€™s most loved cabinet frames, including the BILLY and BESTA frames, which are the ones we have decided to start with. Kitchens and wardrobes will follow soon.

With a long and colorful history of #ikeahacking between us, Linda and I plan to ensure that Fronteriors will bring the latest interior trends to the market, including many stylish finishes that have not been seen in the hacking arena. We also promise to deliver the highest level of quality, attention to detail and love for materials that two interior designers can possibly bring to your home.

We are deliriously excited be getting this off the ground sooner than expected. If you are interested to know more, email info@fronteriors.co to request a copy of the look book with pricing as soon as it’s available (within the next day or two). Until our website build is complete, orders can addressed to via email.

Let the furniture making games begin.

  • While the kids and I have been enjoying some quality time with special friends and fam in South Africa, the orders and enquiries over at @fronteriors are coming in thick and fast. @liveloudgirl and I couldn't be more grateful for all the love, support and enthusiasm shown towards our new venture.
We are so excited to be sharing the next installments to our collection of doors, sides, tops and accessories for your much-loved IKEA frames. This cane cabinet (constructed with 2 x 128x60xm Besta cabinets and supported on our custom leg frame) is proving to be a firm favourite. Talk about 'furniture in disguise', eh!? image by @marli_smithphotography

  • Me just before I felt the wind temp and added another 3 layers of clothing ... ๐Ÿ™ˆโ„
  • Brrr, game drives this past weekend have been sooo cold. I think all the animals are in hiding and frankly, I don't blame them. You know the game viewing is dismal when rangers are calling in giraffe sightings on the radio! But they're still one of my favourite animals to see so no complaints here ๐Ÿฆ’๐Ÿ’›โ„๐Ÿฅถ
  • It takes a special brand of crazy to enjoy sunset swims in rough water in the middle of winter. These kids have it in abundance. #holidays #kzn #saltrock #southafrica #travelwithkids #bestofhome #bestoftimes
  • Sorry about the radio silence around here but our first week in South Africa has been a very busy whirlwind. We settled into #hawkesholidayhome and then headed into the Midlands to drive my niece and nephew back to their boarding schools. While we were there, we made a mini vacay of it with a two night stay at beautiful Gowrie Farm. We visited loads of places, including the iconic sculpture of Madiba at the Nelson Mandela capture site. We're loving the weather and catch-ups with loads of friends and family, but really looking forward to getting into the bush at Zuka this weekend for some proper downtime with Ouma.
  • We've had such a wonderful 2 night stay at @housedatdru on Gowrie Farm. It's such a beautiful estate with so much to see and do in the area. Highly recommend
  • Crisp winter evenings in the KZN midlands are just magical. We are loving our stay at @housedatdru

  • It's so good to be back home in crisp, fresh air, lush greenery and small boutique stores everywhere!

  • The epic summer exit pack has begun and by this time tomorrow I'm going to be (hopefully) chilling right here in our living room at #hawkesholidayhome ... Actually, who am I kidding!? There will first have to be the epic unpack, and then I guess we'll need some grocery shopping done, and then the kids will be nagging me to go to the beach. But we'll be 'home' and it won't feel like someone left the oven door open. So that''s something to get excited about!
