House of Hawkes is a Dubai-based boutique design studio specialising in interior design, styling, art direction and content creation. We document our work and anything that inspires us on the blog and our Instagram feed.
Where it all started
Kathryn Hawkes, Founder
I’ve had a passion for interior design for as long as I can remember. In September 2013, I created a blog to share my love of interior design, news from the design world, favourite finds, and inspiring home tours. What started as just a blog quickly blossomed into a new career and the website expanded to include a portfolio of my own projects too. I couldn’t be more grateful for the journey that this path has taken me on.
Over the years, I’ve collaborated with notable brands including IKEA, Bosch, Crate & Barrel, Hansgrohe, Quooker and Jotun Paints. In 2018, House of Hawkes won the Amara Blog award for Best International Interior Design blog – undoubtedly, one of my House of Hawkes highlights. The following year, I co-founded Fronteriors with a friend and colleague and was also approached by bed retailer, Helmii to design a bed for them.
I now work with a small but talented and creative team. We offer art direction and interior styling for photoshoots as well as custom content creation for brand collaborations, but spend most of our time creating bespoke interior designs for both commercial and residential clients.
Meet the team
Charly van Doremalen-Oster
Our Dutch-Caribbean-Island-girl was the first to join me and has been a vital part of the team ever since. This mum of two boys is super practical, crafty and a total DIY diva, making her invaluable on installation days. She’s a sourcing queen who manages our project schedules and runs a tight ship. She’s also the primary line of communication with our suppliers and trade partners.
Marli Smith
A fellow South African, Marli is a fashion buyer turned photographer and creative – she’s also a new mum to baby Mila and our unofficial style compass here in the office. She’s the trendy one who tries to keep the rest of us on track. She works really hard behind the scenes, attending to the creative requirements of the blog, managing all our in-house shoots and contributing to our design process for clients.
