Designing a shared gender neutral room can be daunting, but we never shy away from a challenge. So, when a mum of two reached out to us to assist with creating a space for her brood we accepted without hesitation. We had an generous blank canvas with a beautiful wooden floor to work from and the brief was fairly simple: double the kids meant double the volume of stuff, so enough storage for all their paraphernalia was a necessity. Our client also wanted a fun and playful space with a colourful palette. She was also really keen on having some key furniture pieces in white – a request we later accommodated with a gorgeous junior bed and cot from Oliver furniture.

First call of action was covering one wall in a herringbone tile wallpaper from Milton and King and painting the rest of the walls in a fresh coat of Minty Breeze by Jotun. To spark a sense of fun we added a little zoo of Fiona Walker animal heads (from Tribe) to the feature wall and positioned them between the two beds. The other side of the room would function as the play area, which came to life with the help of a soft vintage rug, some cute chairs (also from Tribe) and a small oak table that we snapped up from Martin and Ella.

For the storage solution we got creative with a build-in BESTA cabinet and Fronteriors doors, providing ample storage space while allowing enough floor space for play. We hung a canopy in a corner to create a cosy nook for ready or fantasy playtime. A pendant light from Georges stole the show. Made of eight cheesecloth fabric petals and rattan, the design symbolises a flower. We livened up a long passage wall between the bedroom and the bathroom with a gallery filled with playful quirky prints and a r Ila Y Ela raffia lion head from Martin & Ella.

With a few decorative pillows and a gorgeous OYOY rainbow wall rug, the room transformed into an adorable haven for the little siblings. We’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking, but if you have any questions feel free to comment below.
