I was introduced to the lovely Camilla Hind towards the end of last year when she and I worked on a fun Christmas styling collaboration with two other bloggers. You know how you sometimes meet a person and you know instantly that you’re going to like them? Well, Camilla is one of those people – aside of simply being delightful to be around, she is one super-talented-multi-tasking-mama of two. For our collaboration project, she played the role of photographer, but Camilla is also an amazing artist who loves to make, share and inspire through colourful, whimsical, imaginary and personalised illustrations. Oh, and she’s a blogger too – check out the awesome blog she co-writes with her sister.

After seeing some of Camilla’s exquisite work, I fell in love with her tiny, detailed drawings and watercolours, and it wasn’t long before I asked her to make a personalised gift for a treasured friend who was about to leave Dubai. Our children had grown up together and I wanted her to have something sentimental, that the whole family could appreciate and enjoy, and most importantly, something that would bring back fond memories of their time in the UAE.

What Camilla produced was absolute perfection for me. She captured each of the children so beautifully and I can safely say that emotions about Jacqui’s imminent departure were running high because I burst into floods of tears the first time I saw it. And needless to say, it’s new owner had the same reaction.

Camilla’s background is not only in art, but she is also an experienced childcare professional. She grew up – in her own words – ‘with three layers of wool in snowy Norway’, studied Illustration at university in the UK, travelled to Turkey, Greece and Sweden where she worked with children, and now resides in Dubai with her hubby and two adorable kids, happily having ditched all the layers of wool and wellies.

Camilla’s artwork ranges from small, simplistic and fresh watercolour and fine pen illustrations, to large acrylic canvas paintings. If you’re as inspired with her creativity as I am, feel free to stalk her on Instagram where you’ll see many beautiful things in the making.

Before I sign off, I wanted to share this fitting quote from an email I received from Camilla, She said, “There is a huge, non-comparable, extraordinary rush that comes from handing over a finished piece of artwork to someone. If I’ve made them smile, or moved them somehow; It’s priceless. These are some of my very favourite moments.”

    • So enjoying early walks and slow mornings with the kids - and ever conscious that there are so few mornings like this left before its back to school and work and busy routines. Savouring it all. We decided to go Dutch for brekkie this morning with some pancakes made from @woolworths_sa gluten free ready mix. They were delish!! Do yourself a favour and get some. Also, while you're spoiling yourself, find someone who looks at you like my kids look at pancakes.
    • So glad I went with dark lower cabinets in this kitchen. I realised this morning, as we were packing for a quick trip to Zuka, that I've posted barely any pics of #hawkesholidayhome since I've been here. Such a weirdo. Happy Saturday y'all! .

    • Impromptu sundowners this evening with @sweetsecrets.dubai and co. Beaut!
    • I arrived in South Africa with a laundry list of things I wanted to do / get done while I was here. Anyone want to attempt a guess on how many of those things I've actually accomplished? ... anyone?

    • This might just be the scene of an afternoon nap. Let's see...
    • So many beautiful and inspiring homes to see on my morning walk. I just love the pretty creeper on this wall. And I hope the owner doesn't find me super creepy for admiring it πŸ™ˆπŸ€”πŸ˜Š
    • Quite possibly my favourite corner of #hawkesholidayhome
    • I can't believe we are already on the downward slide towards the end of summer. I've still got some time left in South Africa, but my head is back 'home' in Dubai as @liveloudgirl and I are in full planning mode for our next @fronteriors release. This is my favourite cabinet in the current collection - can you guess which IKEA frames are behind it? And do you have a favourite?

Ps: have a peek at the other looks for this frame on my stories
    • Treated myself to a little spa moment at @laura_channing_spa this morning. Still high-fiving myself for that smart decision. This little gem is a literal 3 minute walk from our front door and yet it always feels like I've escaped somewhere far away. The setting is so pretty and the service is amazing. It's an amazing perk to staying at #hawkesholidayhome
