Style your Sideboard Ideas

Something we’re asked all too often by clients is “how do I style a sideboard?” It’s actually a great question, and as stylists we sometimes forget that it doesn’t come naturally to everyone – yet it so important to have these surface spaces looking ‘pulled together’ in you home. With this in mind, we thought it might be helpful to share some console or sideboard styling ideas as a regular feature. So you can look forward to a varied collection of styling visuals and ideas to steal in the coming months. We will try to style the same area regularly so that you can see how different one space can look when you change things up a bit – and we look forward to partnering with some of the local retailers to bring you fresh ideas with the changing seasons.

For this month’s feature, we’ve partnered with The Bowery Company because this store, Dubai’s original online concept stores, is our ‘go-to’ shop for tasteful accessories that complete the look of any space we work on.

The first thing to keep in mind when styling your console is that doesn’t have to be a practical wallflower that quietly stashes clutter. This multi-tasking piece of furniture, often also referred to as credenza or buffet, offers endless styling possibilities and can be styled and re-styled every few months.

Style your Sideboard Decor Items

Avoid placing all items lined up like little soldiers, layer accessories to create some depth and points of interest. Style larger or wider items at the back and smaller or shorter items in front. We opted for an exquisite indigo stone bowl combined with the Lincoln table lamp that has a statement black marble base. It’s important to have items of varying sixes and heights in the mix. We created some dramatic height variation for this minimalist look with a dry branch in a clear vase and leaned an artwork against the wall. The simple line art from By Gami gave us all the right feels.

We created a quick and easy second look by adding a couple of books to serve as a little pedestal for a the charming little ball vase.

We hope you find this little how-to post helpful and would love to hear about how you make sideboard styling work for you.
