Gorgeous Grey Bedroom Reveal

14/06/2018

If you have caught any of my Intsastories lately, you might have seen a sneak peak of one of our latest master bedroom designs. Our lovely clients, a South African couple who we first met when they reached out to us to design their baby boy’s nursery last year, were keen to upgrade their bedroom. After loving the look and feel of the nursery, they were keen to incorporate some grey into their master bedroom too. I’m not sure that the bold and striking tone of Jotun’s Matrix was quite what they had in mind, but we proposed it; they put their trust in us and took a leap of faith.

There’s a starting point to every design and for this room that grey colour was its it. Once we had selected the palette, we started to build the aesthetic around it. As the room is large and airy enough to accommodate the dark colour, we painted every wall in that shade and complimented it with lighter tones and luxurious textures – including one of the key elements in the room – that gorgeous black wicker pendant lamp.

The couple already had a great bed that they loved and wanted to keep, but it’s dark wood finish wasn’t going to sit well in the revamped space so we had it painted a lighter shade of grey (Jotun’s Oxford River). We added natural elements around the space with raw wood frames, a large round mirror and our favourite Bella leather armchair. Love, love, love the look of that tan leather against the dramatic grey wall.

The high ceilings allowed for a large scale art piece above the bed and we found the perfect black abstract watercolour print on Etsy. Other framed artworks in the room were purposefully smaller and more intricate – and we were really excited to include some pieces by choice South African artists, Victoria Verbaan and Amy Keevy. To complete the sophisticated look of the long wall opposite the bed, we accessorised the ample meterage of MALM drawers with the cute vases from H&M Home and lush greenery.

For the curtains we opted for unlined linen to create a crisp, clean and relaxing look and we were thrilled to bits with what we dubbed our little game-changer; the single blue and white cushion that confidently contrasts the many monochrome elements whilst paying a subtle compliment to the challenging to decorate around Santorini-esque blue window frames.

I love this grey so much that I am contemplating it for my own bedroom!
