Over the past two weeks, I have shared mood boards on how to shop the IKEA Part Sale for your living room and bedroom. After sharing these tips with you all, I figured it was about time I put the sale to good use for myself. My home office has been in need of a change for some time and IKEA’s Part Sale presented a great opportunity to tick this one off the list.
Whilst I loved the previous layout of my office, I have to admit that it was pretty anti-social. My desk was located up against the back wall, which meant that I always had my back to anyone who visited. I was facing away from all the action. More and more these days, I am finding that I need a more social set-up in my office – not only because I now have some part time help with the blog and my interior styling work, but because as the kids have got older, they enjoy being in my office and ‘working’ around me too. I use the term ‘working’ quite loosely here because they’re usually just distracting me from my work, however, I do so like the idea of us all being able to sit in one place as we work on our various tasks. With this in mind, I have opted to move away from a traditional desk and have settled for a dining table instead. It doesn’t really get more social than that. I can now seat up to four people in my little home office and it feels ike a much better use of the space in here.
This space feels so much lighter and brighter. Aside from the new table arrangement, a change from my old Roman blinds to a new roller blind has made a huge difference and I am really enjoying the new look.
I’ve laid out the key elements of my makeover below – all available from IKEA, and some are even included in the sale.
1 BJURSTA TABLE (this table can extend from 175 – 260cm) | 2 KOLDBY HIDE RUG | 3 METOD WALL CABINETS | 4 RANARP PENDANT LAMP | 5 RIGGAD LED LAMP (this baby has a wireless charging pad and a USB port – love!)
I used METOD kitchen cabinets for storage in my office, but it’s worth mentioning that you can also achieve the look of these floating cabinets by using items from the BESTÅ SERIES. Space is a bit limited on my office, so I wanted to use cabinets that had 40cm wide doors, rather than the 60cm standard door size in the BESTÅ series. The down side of using the kitchen cabinets however is that the top side of the cabinets are not as aesthetically pleasing with a few screws and joins showing, but I found a great solution for that – the FÖRBÄTTRA cover panel makes a great surface top too. Keep in mind though that the finished length of your cabinet will be limited by the available lengths of the cover panels. In my case, 240cm was the longest option, so I went with that and it’s worked out very well.
I’m really pleased with my new office and I hope you feel inspired if you are also needing to make some changes to your workspace.

Where is that basket your fiddle leaf fig tree is in from? It’s amazing!
Hi Stephanie, the basket is from IKEA, but it’s a bit of a DIY hack as I removed the handles that it came with and painted the white colour block. The fiddle leaf is from one of the shops at the Al Warsan nurseries. Kath x
