IKEA Stockholm 2017 collection

24/03/2017

Ikea is about to launch the 2017 Stockholm collection and believe me when I say you want to see this. There are over 40 new items in the recurrent Stockholm series, including sofas, coffee tables, vases, pillows, rugs and lamps, but there are a few pieces in particular that have caught my eye.

Let’s start with this rattan cabinet designed by Nike Karlsson, shall we? Is it just me, or is this also one of the hottest pieces you’ve ever seen coming out of IKEA? It’s made from rattan and pine and has gorgeous brass hardware detail. I absolutely love it.

Next on the favourite list, and also designed by Nike Karlsson, is a rather fabulous rattan armchair. It’s good to know that the cushions it’s paired with are available in gray velvet or white cotton, offering some real flexibility to the look you can achieve with these earthy pieces.

Then there’s this rattan coffee table, which I personally would also use as a bench at the end of a bed or in a hallway. In fact I’m already envisaging a variety of functions for this beauty and can’t wait to style one somewhere.

The big, bold newcomer in this collection is a large comfy sofa that is available in three velvet fabric options – grey, navy and a rich orange. There is also an ottoman available in the three fabrics. You’ve no doubt noticed that velvet is making a big comeback in interiors and IKEA have, of course, not missed the mark here.

From the brief look I’ve had at this sofa, it appears to have an extraordinary amount of back cushions – possibly too many. I realise that coming from someone who doesn’t shy away from a cushion, this is probably a big statement, but let’s see. I’ll hold off any judgment until I’ve actually seen it in the flesh, or should I say the velvet.

The new Stockholm collection is excited in UAE stores on 8 April. Race you there.

    • We started work on this shared sibling room just before the summer and after long delays with some of the items we ordered, we finally managed to apply the finishing touches last month. There's a full reveal on the blog. Link in profile.

    • @d3dubai is one of my favourite Dubai districts. I'll be back there this afternoon with @liveloudgirl to talk about building a business in the social media age and our @fronteriors journey thus far. We kick off at 6pm if you around and would like to join us. #downtowndesign #ddw2019
    • Yesterday was our first day in the new studio. Given the distinct lack of furniture, we unpacked all the crazy onto the one @andtradition sofa that we have. ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks to @marli_smithphotography for capturing this hilarious moment, like the new age working mum that she is - with a baby on her hip. We were just missing our other brand new mummy. New chapter starts here. #studiofronteriors #girlgang

    • Aw, look at these little guys sky-rocketing the cuteness scale in yesterday's nursery installation. And as for that colour (Exhale) from @jotunpaintsarabia 2020 collection, I'm smitten!
    • @marli_smithphotography and I tried to shoot my kitchen makeover today but rain has ended play unexpectedly.... hey ho, you can't get me down though, I'm loving this new space too much!
    • A busy and exciting week lies ahead, peeps! Aside of an installation to complete for a lovely new client, I'm right on the cusp of a super exciting milestone. @liveloudgirl and I are moving into a shared studio space... because since the inception of @fronteriors we're basically married so getting a place together seems like the obvious next step ๐Ÿ˜‚ But seriously though, we're becoming a blended tribe of sorts and we are really excited for this next chapter of creativity, with our respective teams working side by side while we steer the runaway train that is fronteriors.
The new studio is a dreamy blank canvas of endless artistic possibilities. We've already treated it to some @jotunpaintsarabia magic on the walls, but I suspect that that the evolution of this workspace will be constantly in motion. Stay tuned.

    • On the blog this morning is a better-late-than-never edition of our popular 'scene & heard' series. It's a look back at some of the team's summer highlights, including dreamy Netherlands coastal vibes and some Dubai gems discovered my Marli and Mila who spent a large chunk of the break locally.
