Light it up with neon signage

Happy New Year, my lovelies! I hope that you all had a fabulous festive season and are ready to tackle 2016 head on. If you’re looking for ways in which to make some decor changes, or just light up your new year in general, I have my eye on a trend that may be just the thing for you – neon signage!

Traditionally used in advertising, neon signage has become popular with many contemporary artists and architects. This trend has made it’s way to stylish home interiors as well. Neon signs are now lighting up the walls of strikingly styled dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms. Available in a variety of colours and designs, these babies are definitely a sign of the times.

Designs are created by bending glass tubing into shapes. Typography can be bold or whimsical, depending on your taste. Colour is usually determined by the type of glass tubing and the composition of the gas filling. The good news – you can customise any sign to your specifications. Be bold in colour and choice of words or go for a softer minimalistic look with flowing letters and white lighting.

Ready-made neon signs are widely available, as are some customised options -check out the Bowery Company’s neon sign collection. The very cute heart-shaped neon sign was the key feature in a beautifully styled girls room by my very talented friend, Live Loud Girl. The pink neon touch definitely completed the fairy tale.

If you would like to try your hand at creating your own neon design, I’ve found two great tutorials. Check out I SPY DIY – and learn how to bend a neon wire like a pro. If you prefer to watch a video instead, watch this tutorial by The Sorry Girls. Do yourself a favour though and skip straight to 1:25 on the video timeline. They make it look so easy, I might even try.

Above are some of my favourite neon-lit interiors.
