The days are long and the years are short, isn’t that the saying? How is it even possible that Easter is right around the corner – the days and months really do seem to be flying. With so many projects keeping us busy, we are terribly behind on a few room reveals for spaces completed last year – and with the end of the first quarter looming, we are determined to document these makeovers before the end of this month. Thanks to an extra pair of hands on deck, belonging to the lovely, Marli, I am finally able to be a little more productive!
Amongst many other clients, we have been working with one particularly lovely family for some time now, assisting with a full make-over of their five bedroom home in Dubai’s leafy Meadows neighbourhood. The project, which has been a labour of love, is nearing completion and we are really excited to give you a look at what we’ve done thus far. We have been tackling the home makeover room by room and looking back at some of the first spaces we finished, it’s difficult to recognise the before pictures. So grab a cuppa as we dive right into the first instalment.
First up – the TV lounge. Apart from this being the main domain of the family’s adorable pet, it’s essentially is a social space for the family’s two teenagers – a room for screen time and chilling. With the exception of the piano, a large cabinet and the artwork, this room was completely overhauled to give it a more contemporary look. We wanted this room to take full advantage of the beautiful pool and garden view so we raised the height of the new blinds, allowing for an impressive visual of the gorgeous outdoor area – and a lot more natural light. A fresh coat of paint in a much lighter tone (White Poetry by Jotun Paints) instantly lightened and brightened the room.
We chose an extra deep sofa with washable covers from Crate and Barrel and styled it with cushions from one of my favourite US-based interior stores, McGee & Co., and added contrast and texture with a leather swivel armchair from West Elm. All smiles for the beautiful rug from Armadillo & Co, a firm favourite of ours, and without a doubt perfect for this room. Lighting was key addition of character to this room, we sourced the Petite Friture vertigo pendant light locally from I Light You and the swing wall lamp from The Bowery Company. The walnut storage console and TV bench were custom made to suit the family’s requirements – the latter houses an impressive range of gaming equipment that is flawlessly concealed whilst easily accessed.
