Mila’s Big Girl Room Reveal

Mila’s Big Girl Room Reveal

I’m sure most of you are well aware of the special in-house project we’ve been working on for our colleague, Marli. Her daughter, Mila, is turning two next month and with Marli expecting another little girl in just a few weeks, it was time to create a big girl room for her before her little sister arrives. (If you’ve missed the nursery reveal be sure to check it out.) We called in the help of some of our go-to suppliers and friends in the trade and managed to put something so sweet together for this little lady.

Marli wanted it to be a space that didn’t take itself too seriously. One that felt playful and whimsical, yet grounded in timeless elements that could grow with her. The main source of inspiration came from a vintage-like rug we used for two projects earlier this year and still cant seem to get enough of. It’s soft, silky texture is ideal for kids spaces. For the walls, we settled on a bold, dusty pink tone, using our favourite colour block technique. The colour is called Senses and of course, it’s always Jotun. For Mila’s transition from cot to a bed, we loved the Ikea Minnen Extendable Bed. It’s such a sweet style for kids rooms and not only does it have cute built-in railings at the top and foot, it’s also low enough for her to climb in and out of easily. As an added bonus it is extendable, so it can grow with your little one. To up the ante of her little bed, we added a beautiful textured dusty pink canopy from Elli Junior and she just loves it! The grown-ups also love the colour and texture that this draped fabric brings to the space. For the bed linen we found the cutest little duvet set from H&M Home and finished it off with a favourite Ila y Ela lion cushion from Martin and Ella. Another special piece in the room is the gorgeous farm print from Micush. How could you not love it? Framing of the prints were easy-peasy with the help of Draft. We uploaded the digital files to their online site, selected size and frame colour and the framed prints were delivered within a few days.

To stylishly conceal all of her toys and little knick-knacks, we installed 2 Ikea Ivar cabinets against the wall opposite the bed. The warm wood tone plays off perfectly against the wall colour, giving it a soft and natural contrast. To flaunt some cute accessories from Martin and Ella we installed a white Ikea Bergshult shelf above the cabinet. Mila loves reading, so a book storage solution within her reach was definitely needed. We utilized a small wall between the bathroom and the entrance and reused the little Bekvam shelves from her nursery. To create a corner where little missy can carry out some creative activities, we nabbed the Duke adjustable table from Home Centre – this guy checks all our boxes: great design, great price, and great function. The very sweet Olli Ella luggy and trunk from Eco Souk is a firm favorite of Mila, who has been toting her most-loved doll all over. The final touch was adding the Palermo ceiling light, a statement piece from Home and Soul, contributing to the natural element of the room and tying the space together perfectly.
