Marli’s Floral Nursery Reveal

Baby girl green and pink floral nursery

Those of you that are regular watchers of my Instagram stories would have seen the special in-house project we’ve been working on for our colleague, Marli. Her daughter, Mila, is almost two and is about to become a big sister as Marli is expecting another little girl in just a few weeks. It feels like yesterday that we were helping Marli frantically install Mila’s nursery the afternoon before she arrived – fast forward almost two years and the family have moved from their apartment into a villa and we’re at it again, but this time two rooms and a little more time to spare.

For the past few months, in between projects and the challenges of Covid-19, we have been working on a ‘big girl’ room design for Mila and a nursery for the new bub.  We reached out to some of our friends in the trade and favourite suppliers to collaborate with us and the positive feedback was amazing. We are so grateful to have a supportive network of suppliers, many of which are small businesses like ours, and we feel honoured to showcase their products in the most authentic way – real homes within the House of Hawkes team. The rooms are finally ready, and we are really excited to share them with you. We’ve split the reveals into two separate posts and the nursery first up.

The starting point for this space was selecting a wallpaper. Marli fell in love with this delicate watercolour floral design in soft hues from Paper Pop. The muted pinks and greens became the foundation of the palette for this room and the paper really gives the whole space that wow factor when you walk in. Our next step was picking a paint colour to complement the wallpaper. After trying numerous samples, Marli decided on a fresh green from Jotun called Laurel – a bold choice for her, but it paid off.

We selected the key furniture pieces for the nursery from Home Centre, one of our favorite home retailers, particularly when we need great results on a modest budget. Marli was keen to have a vintage looking piece in the room and we found something with that old world essence in the tall Addison chest of drawers that has a distinct English country feel to it. The simple white Little Star cot, dusty pink nursing chair, rug and floorlamp were all sourced from Home Centre too. The room has a corner window that creates a cozy nook where we placed the pretty armchair – not only does it look gorgeous in this space, it is also really comfortable and we suspect Marli will spend many hours in it. To add some soft nighttime lighting, we chose the Terry Gloss floor lamp. For the rug, we found the Whipstitched texture rug that is super soft underfoot, beautiful in person and the quality is also exceptional (it’s thick and silky). On the other side of the room, the gorgeous Addison chest of drawers multitasks a changing station with an Olli Ella baby basket from Marmarland on top.

The modern Bronzo pendant light from Mafee Mushkil is an absolute winner – it’s gold finish is impactful in the small room and has the added bonus of being budget friendly. Be sure to pop over to their website to get a load of their beautiful ceiling lights. The charming whale print is from Micush via Etsy. They generally sell prints, but digital versions can be arranged on request. For the framing of the artwork, we reached out to the team at Draft, they make the online printing and framing process a total breeze. We uploaded the digital files to their online site, selected size and frame colour and they took it from there – delivery included. Couldn’t be easier.

And of course no nursery is complete without some cute accessories. The charming little Maileg bunnies and the delicate wreath are from Martin and Ella and the little handwoven rattan stool is from Ecosouk. Last but not least, the stylish woven basket is from Bound No. 82, an online store that recently landed on our radar and we are smitten. Their Products are all produced using sustainable methods and materials.

We are so thrilled with the outcome of this little lady’s space and excited for her arrival next month. Biggest thanks to all the brands / stores that partnered with us on this project. As an added treat, we have some discount codes for our readers. Check out our shop the look below:
