Hello 2020! The arrival of a fresh new year brings with it a heightened sense of what’s new ‘out there’ and catching our eye. More specifically, a realisation of the interior design trends that we are swooning over and that are having a definite influence on our design perspective as we enter a new decade. We thought it would be a good time to share some trends that are flickering on our radar. So, kick back and feast your eyes on whats giving us all the interior right feels.
Curves
You only need five minutes of scrolling through the ’gram’ or Pinterest to clock that curves have been making waves since 2019 and are looking set to hold centre stage well into this year. Rounded shapes, soft, sinuous lines and scalloped edges are shaping everything, from statement furniture pieces and kitchen cabinets to smaller items like mirrors, lighting, vases and tiles. We find ourselves particularly drawn to the mirrors and armchairs, but we are loving this voluptuous new direction across all mediums and materials.

Textured walls
Creating walls with texture is a growing trend and a fabulous way to elevate your interiors. From wall paneling to paint effects and wallpaper, this trend adds a sense of rich texture, depth and interest to a space without being overly bold or loud.

Bold colour in kitchens
Say goodbye to stark white kitchens, colour is definitely creeping in. We are going gaga over the cabinets drenched in saturated colours. While moody blues and black have been a big hit and will remain popular in 2020, dark green is taking centre stage – as are warmer, walnut-toned woods.

Cozy, overly textured sherpa chairs
We have seen a great influx of velvet over the past two years but we have a new kid on the block. Say hello to Sherpa upholstery, a super soft and chubby texture that is basically meant to mimic a sheep’s fleece. Frankly, we can’t think of anything more cosy and inviting – and it really suits the new curvaceous shapes of sofas and armchairs.

Mosaic furniture
Another interesting movement we have been spotting more and more of lately is mosaic covered furniture – and it’s a goodie. Console tables, cubes, coffee and side tables wrapped in grid tiles. It seems that some applications are actual tiles, whereas others are textured papers that mimic the look. Either way, we love the vibe and there’s a little something cooking with this over at fronteriors. Stay tuned to the instagram for that awesome drop.

So that’s our take on what we think is hot for 2020. Let us know what resonates with you.
