Pantone Colours 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity

25/03/2016

I have to admit, I didn’t fall in love with the Pantone’s choice of colours for 2016 when they were first announced. Hence the silence on this topic. The selected colour is supposed to reflect the spirit of the time. Pantone has said that colour “has always been an integral part on how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times”. For the first time, the blending of two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity were chosen as the Pantone colour(s) of the year. I was terribly unconvinced.

The combination of a girly pink with a boyish blue defied my traditional and very personal opinion of a “perfect match”. I had a real struggle with embracing this colour combo. Holding back even more to do a blog post on this uneasy match. But alas, as time has passed, I’ve noticed rather surprisingly, that these two colours appear to gel rather well together after all.

Fashion designers, florists, decorators, makeup artists and bloggers alike have jumped at a chance to use these colours in their design processes. I can’t believe I was so hesitant. It just goes to show how you live and learn. Always. And as I love to say, why have a mind, if you can’ change it. I’m now thoroughly convinced that these tones are an ideal match. In case you remain uncertain, herewith a selection of gorgeous images that illustrate why Pantone knows best.

On a side note, Rose Quartz is described by Pantone as a persuasive yet gentle tone. It conveys kindness and a sense of poise. Serenity is weightless. Airy. It is like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of relief and ease even in turbulent times.

Do you agree? I’d love to hear what you think.
