Hello my long lost lovelies. It’s been a while, I know. Apologies, as always, for my radio silence. If you follow my social media, you’ll know that the smalls and I have been in South Africa for the past few weeks on our annual pilgrimage to escape the heat and enjoy some downtime time with friends and family.
This year, we’ve spent a fair amount of time of the road, covering vast areas of our beloved KwaZulu Natal province from the Zululand bush to the beautiful Midlands, but one of my favourite stops so far has been our stay at this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G beach house in Salt Rock. It’s one of those off-the-charts kind of awesome places so I had to share. If you’re considering an idyllic beach holiday in South Africa with a large group – this is just the place!
Picture yourself in paradise with warm ‘winter’ days and a cool ocean breeze, waves crashing on a pristine and unspoiled beach. This is a holiday home filled with elegance, comfort and space. Think crisp white linen, fresh towels, beach towels, wi-fi access and a full time staff member. Our extended family and some friends (15 of us in total with 8 kids) had the pleasure of unwinding in luxurious splendour at this spectacular beachfront home. Newly renovated to a high spec, this seven bedroom property, all with sea views, sits on a huge double plot where the sprawling lawn runs straight onto the beach. It’s paradise.
The house (31 Colwyn Drive) is available to book through Luxury Coastal Escapes – owned and operated by Louise Smallwood. This bespoke holiday rental company boasts an impressive collection of luxury homes available for holiday rental in both KwaZulu Natal and the Cape. Louise’s passion for property and interiors is evident in the quality of homes selected for her website.
Luckily for me, I have some family members who are joint owners of this property, so we qualified for the ‘family rate’, but this place is well worth dipping into the holiday savings for.
So, as I was saying earlier, the house has 7 bedrooms in total – 3 of which are upstairs and a further 4 downstairs. Whilst the interior of each room is unique, they all share a comfortable similarity that makes them equally lovely – like that of a boutique hotel. All of the rooms are really spacious and one has three beds with an en-suite bathroom, making it the most glamorous kids ‘dormitory’ you ever saw. Practical neutral tones work well with fresh scatter cushions and white washed wood throughout. And I give the thumbs up for the modern greens in each room!
The enormous entertaining space is all open plan with a large state of the art kitchen, separate scullery, two dining areas (one serving wine and one serving milk… if you get my drift), lounge and TV area. Combined textures in the entertaining space remind you that you are close to nature while enjoying the luxurious interiors. Wood, concrete, linen and stone all work together to create a beautiful area with plenty of space.
The entertaining space flows out on to a wooden deck with rim flow pool, braai (BBQ for the non-South Africans) area, soft seating and outdoor dining table for al-fresco meal times.
Take a moment to appreciate the sheer size of these spaces. You can honestly have 15 people milling around this home and not feel like you are on top of each other for a moment. It’s absolute holiday heaven for families with kids.
