Home Tour: Petro Vivier from Monoshop

10/08/2017

It’s been a while since we had a home tour on the blog and this one comes all the way from the Western Cape in South Africa. A beautiful minimalistic home in the heart of Somerset West. The home owner is the lovely Petro from Monoshop, who’s no stranger to us. We’ve talked about her shop before and I’ve done a guest post for her blog too. Needless to say Monoshop is one of my favourite online home boutiques from ‘back home’. Amongst many other things, Monoshop sells amazing linen, stationery, prints, lighting and accessories. If monochromatic tones are your thing, you are going to love this home tour and their online store.

In 2013, Petro and her family moved into an old house and embarked on a fairly extensive renovation project. Her love for Scandinavian-design and style had a big influence on how they transformed their home into an all-white, minimal, Scandi-inspired space. They sold nearly all their furniture and sourced new pieces that would suit their style. If they couldn’t source the exact pieces that they were after, they designed and made their own items, from trestle desks, triangular lamps, pallet coffee tables to scatter cushions. And that’s pretty much how they started their online store.

With minimalism as the style aspiration, they set out to create a Scandinavian inspired space with ethnic and Moroccan elements. I love the sheer tranquility of it all. According to Petro their home is still a work in progress, and she still gets excited at the thought of adding finishing touches along the way.

I have to mention the staircase in this living space as it is such a striking feature that has been cleverly accentuated by painting the railing black. An old carpet was removed to reveal the solid wood stairs that come to life with a new coat of varnish.

I really love all the textured details in this home, like the baskets, throw, driftwood and those large oak wall hooks in the bedroom.

The changes they have made so far are astounding. It is well worth hopping over to Petro’s blog to see all the before & after photos for a full appreciation of how these rooms are somewhat unrecognisable from their previous state.
