IKEA favourite finds

Ikea favourites April 2018

If you know me at all, then you probably know of my big love for Ikea. I love to mix affordable basics with investment pieces and the two don’t usually come from the same store. That said, IKEA is collaborating with some big name designers these days and on some levels, they’re threatening to occupying both camps!

This week, while running around like a headless chicken for some installations (which you will be reading more about in the coming weeks) I spent an afternoon zipping through the ‘mothership’ and was terribly distracted by some of the hot new arrivals. I was absolutely blown away by some of the new items in store – think earthy colours and textures, sustainable materials and chic designs. Not surprising, given the collaboration with Piet Hein Eek on a limited edition collection named Industriell. The Dutch designer, known for his dislike for mass production and waste is challenging the question of whether it is possible to make something mass-produced yet also unique. Ikea may seem like an unexpected alliance for this, but Eek has clearly been keeping an eye on the company’s growing focus on using recycled, sustainable and socially responsible materials.

However, it’s not only the Industriell collection that caught my eye – there are also some awesome new across the range. Here are some of my favourite finds to fill your yellow shopping bag.

Follow the trend by bringing the outdoors in, with the beautiful handmade bamboo pendant light and rustic woven chair. The INDUTRIELL range aims to focus on the imperfect and unique nature of raw materials together with unfinished surfaces. The armchair is made of woven paper and powder coated steel. Complete this look with the instagrammable FEJKA artificial cactus and versatile SANDARED knitted pouf. And if treading lightly on the earth appeals to you be sure to also check out the HJÄRTELIG bedside table made from sustainable materials.

One of my personal favourites is the new collection of lighting, and more specifically, the funky NYMÅNE wall lamp with swing arm.

I’m continuously impressed by the tableware being served up by Ikea and some their new pieces are no exception. I really love the KALASMAT speckled stoneware serving platter and the SOMMAR cup & mug sets, which somehow found their way into my shopping bag. I picked the charcoal colour block but they’re also available in a fun shade of pink – ideal for summer poolside entertaining. I know you must all love the practicality of a snap-and-lock type storage container for leftovers as much as I do – and you’ve no doubt never seen them look as good as the 365+ airtight seal transparent containers with their bamboo lids!

Last but not least the organic looking SNAJDARE wall clock is a minimalist beauty.

Happy shopping, peeps!
