fronteriors: an exciting new venture

If you follow me on Instagram, you may already know that I made a rather exciting announcement last month. I’ve started a new business venture with friend and fellow interior stylist, Linda Dekkers, better known as @liveloudgirl. Linda and I met at an industry event a few years ago and have maintained a great working relationship and valuable friendship ever since. In fact, it’s been a collaborative connection with us from the very beginning. We often catch up to exchange thoughts and ideas and at our first such meeting this year, during yet another discussion about upgrading and/or hacking IKEA furniture for clients that required some level of custom carpentry, and our frustration with the fact that no such ready-made product exists in the market, we decided, pretty much on the spur of the moment, to ‘fill that gap’ ourselves. And literally just like that, Fronteriors was born!

Following that eventful lunch, we have spent several weeks channelling our creativity to design a range of custom doors and tops to fit a selection of IKEA furniture frames. The concept of making bespoke fronts and accessories to upgrade IKEA pieces isn’t new – it exists across Europe and the US, but what we will offer is something locally available to the Middle East region as well as a selection of unique finishes that have not yet been seen in this arena.

Linda and I have dedicated a lot of time and thought to selecting the finishes and options for our first launch. Safe to say that the reaction to my recent BILLY 2.0 #IKEAhack confirmed what we had known all along – cane doors would be one of the key attractions of our launch collection. The cane frenzy aside, we have also made carefully considered choices for the other surfaces of our fronts, sides and tops and we are pretty confident that these are going to wow you too.

We announced our design collaboration via our Instagram platforms on 7 March and have been overwhelmed by the messages of excitement, encouragement, love and support received ever since – evident by the requests for pre-orders that have resulted in a growing wait list. Needless to say, the pressure is on and whilst we are still knee deep in the sampling process, we cannot wait to deliver our first products to the new homes.

As we had said in my Instagram posts, there’s no million dollar plan in place here, just two ridiculously passionate interior gals throwing caution to the wind and following a shared dream. Keep an eye on our Fronteriors Instagram feed for a look at what’s inspiring us and some behind the scenes action as we prepare to open our online doors. See what I did there? ; )
