I recently came across this exquisitely simple, highly functional and aesthetically beautiful leather strap. Mathilda Clahr, a design student from Sweden (yup, no surprises there), has transformed a simple strap of leather into an object with multiple uses, from keeping a favourite bag or magazine at the ready to stowing towels or scarves. I’m a big fan of simple, no frills design and this one ticks all the boxes.
It got me thinking about the use of leather straps in decor and DIY projects – something that I’m seeing a lot of lately. I’m particularly keen on leather being used as an alternative to traditional hardware like door handles, knobs and hooks.
Let’s face it, natural hide is both functional and highly durable making it a practical and ever stylish choice for decor and accessories. You may want to try your hand at one of these great DIY projects I found online.

leather cupboard handles // hand towel ring // IKEA hack dresser // leather suspended shelf
Aren’t they awesome? Be sure to let me know if you give one a go.
I can’t finish off without admitting that I’m also taken with leather straps and buckles. Just look at this loveliness…
