After having the nursery done for the newest addition to the family (click here to see post), this mama felt it was only fair to do a room upgrade for the two older brothers’ – they had after all watched the nursery makeover with great admiration and enthusiasm. The brief was to have a tween-approved space that they could grown into – versatile enough for them to spread out and hang with friends, but also practical enough to include desks, storage and workspace – all while reflecting their personality.
The starting point was a fresh coat of paint (Twilight by Jotun) and a splash of colour (Artic Grey by Jotun) for the feature wall behind the beds. The real improvement came with the addition of a wood floor covering by Nordic Homeworx, which elevated the space immeasurably. Mom had recently bought new beds and a rug which she wanted to incorporate into the design. We installed a shared wooden nightstand from The Loom Collection, accessorised with a gorgeous faux aloe from Crate and Barrel. On the beds are crisp white duvet covers with thin black check from Zara Home paired nicely with the grey scatters from IKEA. Two of our favourite marine prints from My Deer Art Shop’s Ocean collection add character and personality to the room.
To ensure ample work space for both boys we decided on a custom desk configuration with the ALEX drawers and GERTON table top, both from IKEA. To keep it from getting cluttered we installed 3 SKÅDIS pegboards so the boys can keep their stationery and notes organised and visible. As a smart storage solution, we opted for the clean and simple IKEA FJÄLKINGE shelving unit, providing both open and closed storage space.
We are pleased as punch with the end result of this no-longer-a-kid-but-not-yet-a-teenager room and wish these two lads endless hours of fun in their refreshed space.
