In a recent post, we created a set of printable stationery for your Christmas gifts and table settings and to photograph the items, we set up a festive tablescape in my dining room. We really enjoyed the process and loved the outcome, so we thought it would be nice to share some of images with ideas for decorating the table and dining room for your own Christmas entertaining.
We wanted to give the dining room a festive ambiance and have it look a little different than it’s every day style, so we removed all the artwork from the back wall and replaced it with a faux fir tree garland draped over the hooks that were already in the wall. This immediately transformed the atmosphere in the dining area and reminded us that it’s so often the simplest pieces of decor that can have a really dramatic effect on a space. I got the garland at IKEA a few years ago, but the good news is that they still stock them.
As per our signature style, we kept the look and feel of the table settings very simple with white linens, sprigs of fresh greenery (sourced from Florette), and textured surfaces, complemented by gold cutlery and accessories. Charly struck gold (literally) with an awesome set of gold cutlery that she sourced from Dragonmart last year for an epic Christmas party that she hosted at home – we have however seen similar ones at H&M Home. We found some gorgeous serve ware items from local suppliers (detailed in the shop the look layout below), including terrazzo platters, a gold cake stand, porcelain carafes and some really cute little things from IKEA’s VINTER collection – we particularly loved the adorable milk jug and the acorn shaped sugar bowl (which we used for dessert spoons).
With the exception of the two tall candle sticks, we didn’t add much lighting to the table, but if it’s a dinner party you are setting for, it’s a great idea to add some tiny (battery operated) fairly lights throughout the greenery. I usually buy the ones on bendy copper wire strand (from Typo) that some add sparkle to just about anything.
