Christmas table styling | shop the look

09/12/2018

In a recent post, we created a set of printable stationery for your Christmas gifts and table settings and to photograph the items, we set up a festive tablescape in my dining room. We really enjoyed the process and loved the outcome, so we thought it would be nice to share some of images with ideas for decorating the table and dining room for your own Christmas entertaining.

We wanted to give the dining room a festive ambiance and have it look a little different than it’s every day style, so we removed all the artwork from the back wall and replaced it with a faux fir tree garland draped over the hooks that were already in the wall. This immediately transformed the atmosphere in the dining area and reminded us that it’s so often the simplest pieces of decor that can have a really dramatic effect on a space. I got the garland at IKEA a few years ago, but the good news is that they still stock them.

As per our signature style, we kept the look and feel of the table settings very simple with white linens, sprigs of fresh greenery (sourced from Florette), and textured surfaces, complemented by gold cutlery and accessories. Charly struck gold (literally) with an awesome set of gold cutlery that she sourced from Dragonmart last year for an epic Christmas party that she hosted at home – we have however seen similar ones at H&M Home. We found some gorgeous serve ware items from local suppliers (detailed in the shop the look layout below), including terrazzo platters, a gold cake stand, porcelain carafes and some really cute little things from IKEA’s VINTER collection – we particularly loved the adorable milk jug and the acorn shaped sugar bowl (which we used for dessert spoons).

With the exception of the two tall candle sticks, we didn’t add much lighting to the table, but if it’s a dinner party you are setting for, it’s a great idea to add some tiny (battery operated) fairly lights throughout the greenery. I usually buy the ones on bendy copper wire strand (from Typo) that some add sparkle to just about anything. And if you’re aiming to impress, don’t forget to download our place cards and menu template for your table.

You will find links to the items we used in the shop the look feature at the end of this post.

  • We started work on this shared sibling room just before the summer and after long delays with some of the items we ordered, we finally managed to apply the finishing touches last month. There's a full reveal on the blog. Link in profile.

  • @d3dubai is one of my favourite Dubai districts. I'll be back there this afternoon with @liveloudgirl to talk about building a business in the social media age and our @fronteriors journey thus far. We kick off at 6pm if you around and would like to join us. #downtowndesign #ddw2019
  • Yesterday was our first day in the new studio. Given the distinct lack of furniture, we unpacked all the crazy onto the one @andtradition sofa that we have. ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks to @marli_smithphotography for capturing this hilarious moment, like the new age working mum that she is - with a baby on her hip. We were just missing our other brand new mummy. New chapter starts here. #studiofronteriors #girlgang

  • Aw, look at these little guys sky-rocketing the cuteness scale in yesterday's nursery installation. And as for that colour (Exhale) from @jotunpaintsarabia 2020 collection, I'm smitten!
  • @marli_smithphotography and I tried to shoot my kitchen makeover today but rain has ended play unexpectedly.... hey ho, you can't get me down though, I'm loving this new space too much!
  • A busy and exciting week lies ahead, peeps! Aside of an installation to complete for a lovely new client, I'm right on the cusp of a super exciting milestone. @liveloudgirl and I are moving into a shared studio space... because since the inception of @fronteriors we're basically married so getting a place together seems like the obvious next step ๐Ÿ˜‚ But seriously though, we're becoming a blended tribe of sorts and we are really excited for this next chapter of creativity, with our respective teams working side by side while we steer the runaway train that is fronteriors.
The new studio is a dreamy blank canvas of endless artistic possibilities. We've already treated it to some @jotunpaintsarabia magic on the walls, but I suspect that that the evolution of this workspace will be constantly in motion. Stay tuned.

  • Forever discovering treasures in mom's office only to be told they're for someone else's room. She'll tell you that's the story of her life. Wonder where she gets that sense of drama? ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ™Ž๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿณ @bigstuffed

  • On the blog this morning is a better-late-than-never edition of our popular 'scene & heard' series. It's a look back at some of the team's summer highlights, including dreamy Netherlands coastal vibes and some Dubai gems discovered my Marli and Mila who spent a large chunk of the break locally.
