Favourite things roundup: April

30/04/2014

There’s been plenty of black and white on the blog this month, it’s no wonder my recent online browsing has been particularly focused in that direction. So it seems only appropriate to round up some of my favorite black and white finds as we bid farewell to another month.

A stylish London home

27/04/2014

London-based, Dee Purdy and her family have recently moved out of the home she always referred to as their ‘shoebox’. After gutting and refurbishing it from front to back, I think she and her hubby did an amazing job of making it appear palatial. Take a look at Dee’s impeccable taste, artistic flair and brilliant photography.

Decorating with black & white

20/04/2014

One of the greatest secrets of decorating is that a room doesn’t have to be elaborate to look amazing. It can be as simple as black and white. The high contrast combination adds effortless elegance to any space.

Alex Latimer

10/04/2014

You’ve probably realized by now that I love discovering new design talent (who doesn’t?), so I’m pleased to say its been a good week in that regard. Today I’m showcasing my latest find: Alex Latimer – an illustrator, writer and picture book maker living in Cape Town.

Gallery wall

06/04/2014

One of the items on my long to-do list is to sort out my living room. The wall that our TV sits against has a whole bunch of empty space that needs to be filled and I’m considering a gallery wall. I’ve seen so many inspiring images online but they all have a mismatched, almost haphazard style which is one of those things that I love to admire in other people’s homes but I’m not entirely sure my A-type personality will survive it on a daily basis.

DIY Planter for my fiddle leaf fig tree

03/04/2014

You may recall my recent post about fiddle leaf fig trees and how desperately I wanted one. Well I am pleased to report that not only have I tracked down the elusive fiddle leaf fig tree (aka ficus lyrata) in Dubai but I also completed a little DIY project to house it. Finding this baby proved to be somewhat of a mission but, not one to give up easily, I delved into the depths of beyond and came back victorious. Ok, so I just drove out to the Al Aweer / Warsan area, but trust me, it was very mission-like.

Favourite things roundup: March

30/03/2014

Just like that, we’re at the end of another month and it’s time for the second installment of our Favourite Things series. This month’s round up is a selection of fabulous finds that are all available in Dubai.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

27/03/2014

Wow, it’s Thursday again. It’s been a quiet week on the blog thanks to a few of other projects that have me spinning like a hamster on a wheel in the background here. I hope yours has been a good one so far.

Today’s topic is nursery decor – something that is, very sadly, almost all gone in our home. My daughter will need to upgrade to a ‘big girl’ bed soon and with that, all traces of her baby room will no doubt be gone. Sob. But for anyone who’s yet to embark on this fun adventure, it seems criminal not to introduce you to Sharon Montrose’s Animal Print Shop. I only wish I had known of this woman’s truly incredible work five years ago.
