DIY Planter for my fiddle leaf fig tree

03/04/2014

You may recall my recent post about fiddle leaf fig trees and how desperately I wanted one. Well I am pleased to report that not only have I tracked down the elusive fiddle leaf fig tree (aka ficus lyrata) in Dubai but I also completed a little DIY project to house it. Finding this baby proved to be somewhat of a mission but, not one to give up easily, I delved into the depths of beyond and came back victorious. Ok, so I just drove out to the Al Aweer / Warsan area, but trust me, it was very mission-like.

Just like that, we’re at the end of another month and it’s time for the second installment of our Favourite Things series. This month’s round up is a selection of fabulous finds that are all available in Dubai.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

27/03/2014

Wow, it’s Thursday again. It’s been a quiet week on the blog thanks to a few of other projects that have me spinning like a hamster on a wheel in the background here. I hope yours has been a good one so far.

Today’s topic is nursery decor – something that is, very sadly, almost all gone in our home. My daughter will need to upgrade to a ‘big girl’ bed soon and with that, all traces of her baby room will no doubt be gone. Sob. But for anyone who’s yet to embark on this fun adventure, it seems criminal not to introduce you to Sharon Montrose’s Animal Print Shop. I only wish I had known of this woman’s truly incredible work five years ago.

Design by numbers

20/03/2014

I’m relieved to be nearing the end of what has been a very busy week. Thursdays seem to come around so quickly, and this week I am most grateful for it. My last few posts have been decor focused so I thought it was about time to throw a little design into the ring again. This was initiated by a dear friend of mine in South Africa, who recently asked me to make something for her new home….

I want a fiddle leaf fig tree

16/03/2014

I’m on a bit of a mission to finish up some of the smaller projects around the house this month – you know, the ones that you put off for ages because they’re no biggie and you can get to them anytime…. but then you never do. One of these missions is to acquire some indoor plants for a space or two that need filling. The fact that we don’t have many plants is not without good reason;…

Skinny laMinx

13/03/2014

Well hello there, Thursday! I can’t believe that the weekend is already upon us. Yes, Thursday marks the start of the weekend here in the UAE, and it looks as though we’re in for a dusty, blustery, sand-stormy one at that. But moving swiftly onwards from the weather, I have brighter, more exciting things to share. Heather Moore is the self-taught design and illustrator talent behind the Cape Town-based label Skinny laMinx. I first discovered her Etsy store…

I am so excited to share today’s post with you. When I first saw Shae McGee’s beautiful home, I immediately wanted to showcase it here. Something this lovely simply cannot be kept to oneself. I came across Shea’s Instagram account a few weeks ago and have been intrigued by the beautiful images she posts. She’s an interior designer, mom of a beautiful baby girl and blogger based in California, and her work is amazing. I got in touch…

  • Who even knew a plywood cabinet could look so beautiful!? Or that there 2 IKEA besta frames hidden below those fronts, sides and top?? Its a @fronteriors magic trick! 🧙‍♂️🤭
  • Our second @fronteriors product shoot is happening in two parts this week and we’re beyond excited to share this new batch of fronteriors products with you! You’ve all seen and loved the BILLY cabinet with cane doors, but now you get to meet his big brother – a wider, deeper and all round sexier cane cabinet made up of two BESTA frames supported on our custom metal leg frame. Two cane doors, two sides and one top complete the look of what is probably one of our personal favourite combinations. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks later on this this week.

  • Lazy Saturdays.... for some.
  • We've got double doggie trouble around here for a few days as Pep's sister, Jessie, is stay with us while her humans (also our humans) are in South Africa.
  • Waking up to music is a good way to start the day. Although Pepper's not still not sure what's happening in here when the beat drops... 😂 there's always a frantic little bark like someone's coming for her. Cray cray pup!

  • Around this time last year I was working on a secret makeover project for Kaitlyn's bedroom. She went to school with much resistance on the morning of her birthday and came home to a different room. The reaction was priceless! But seriously, where has a whole year gone? #timeflies #kidspo
  • Loved seeing this room we designed last year featured over at @mintymagazine today. Despite it being a little over a year ago, it seems like a lifetime ago. Makes.you realise how much happens in a year and how quickly it goes.
  • That time we kitted all the @houseofhawkes smalls out in the cool new @piupiuchick collection from @martin_and_ella - I think it was one of the last mornings that you could be outdoors without actually melting, so I guess it was well timed. ☀️🔥🕶🤩

  • Say hello to my new toy, the B&O M5 wireless speaker.  She’s busting out the tunes whilst ticking all the aesthetic and audio quality boxes, looking ever so pretty amidst this re-styled corner of my bedroom. She’s destined for our holiday home in South Africa this summer (we’ve been on the hunt for a good wireless speaker for some time), but in the meantime I’m really enjoying having music in our bedroom again. I think my last source of audio in the bedroom was a clock radio!! Er, who remembers those?

In other news, the hubster is at an event this evening and I’m about to pop my podcast cherry (true story!) and I’m looking for recommendations, please. I’m yet to download a single episode, if that’s even what we call them, but I’ve got the audio situation on fleek. Kids and neighbours may be listening in too! I’m a strong case for the term ‘all the gear and no idea’, so please indulge me with your suggestions with what’s good in the podcast arena. I want to get tonight’s party started.
