Style file: Antlers

19/02/2014

Considering my dislike of traditional taxidermy, I have a rather contradictory crush on antlers. The use of antlers (real and faux) as decor accessories is nothing new, they have been increasing in popularity for some time now, moving beyond the stereotype hunting lodges and into stylish homes of all genres. Admittedly, it took some for me to fully embrace the trend, but now that I am on board, I can’t help but love the versatile use of antlers…

Afro-chic outdoor area

14/02/2014

I thought I would share with you some images of my brother and his wifeโ€™s charming and rustic pool/entertainment area where I recently spent some time. I call it rustic, because it really is, in every sense of the word – they live in the middle of the bush on a private game reserve. I absolutely love this space with its practical design and exquisite view of the open plains. And the odd wild animal dotted around the…

Style file: The paint-dipped effect

06/01/2014

As far as trends go, I am well aware that this one may not be cutting-edge, in fact, it may even be bordering on ‘last season’, but nonetheless, some things are always in style and I for one, am still a big fan of anything with a paint dipped aesthetic. Safe to say that what was once a ‘yeah, I kind of like that’ opinion has now developed into a full-blown crush. Source A | B | C…

On my wish list: dining room

24/12/2013

In follow up to the post about my dining room aspirations, and with all the talk around here about Christmas wish lists, I’ve come up with a little list of my own. Come to think of it, its probably more of a mood board, just a few accents and accessories that would bring some much needed fabulousness to this dining room I’m dreaming aboutโ€ฆ. sighโ€ฆ. 1. Star Spurs napkin, Anthropologie | 2. Juju hat, The Cross Design | 3. Antler…

Style file: Duck egg blue

19/12/2013

I am terribly bored of our dining room. It is in desperate need of some attention and sprucing up – has been for some time now. Everything in there is simply functional and not particularly pretty or inspiring. I think it may even be bordering on drab. I think what’s really bothering me is that it is all dark wood in there while the rest of the house has been lightened and brightened bit by bit over the past…

New sofa covers

18/12/2013

I’ve been a very bad blogger. It’s been almost three weeks since my last post. Eeeek! What is it about this time of year that leaves you with no time at all? I’m armed with a bunch of excuses from which I’ll spare you on this occasion. So without further ado, herewith the second part of my preparations for Christmas guests: arranging new covers for my sofas. You may recall the rush to get my outside cushions recovered…

DIY Outdoor furniture makeover

22/11/2013

OMG, the parentals are coming! My mom and dad are arriving imminently for their annual visit and there’s been a sudden rush to get a bunch of things done around the house so that there appears to be some sense of progress and order since their last visit. Their last visit was somewhat shambolic as we moved house during their stay. It was far from relaxing for them or anyone else. I was so grateful to have them…

Halloween printables to DIY for

29/10/2013

I can hardly believe its that time of year again. Our neighbourhood is abuzz with Halloween excitement and spooky decor – its such a fun time for the kids…… and ahem, some adults too. That said, we live in a community that is really culturally diverse and alas, Halloween and all it’s tricks is not for everyone. I’ve always thought that a little note or sign at the door is really helpful for parents and kids to know,…

  • We started work on this shared sibling room just before the summer and after long delays with some of the items we ordered, we finally managed to apply the finishing touches last month. There's a full reveal on the blog. Link in profile.

  • @d3dubai is one of my favourite Dubai districts. I'll be back there this afternoon with @liveloudgirl to talk about building a business in the social media age and our @fronteriors journey thus far. We kick off at 6pm if you around and would like to join us. #downtowndesign #ddw2019
  • Yesterday was our first day in the new studio. Given the distinct lack of furniture, we unpacked all the crazy onto the one @andtradition sofa that we have. ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks to @marli_smithphotography for capturing this hilarious moment, like the new age working mum that she is - with a baby on her hip. We were just missing our other brand new mummy. New chapter starts here. #studiofronteriors #girlgang

  • Aw, look at these little guys sky-rocketing the cuteness scale in yesterday's nursery installation. And as for that colour (Exhale) from @jotunpaintsarabia 2020 collection, I'm smitten!
  • @marli_smithphotography and I tried to shoot my kitchen makeover today but rain has ended play unexpectedly.... hey ho, you can't get me down though, I'm loving this new space too much!
  • A busy and exciting week lies ahead, peeps! Aside of an installation to complete for a lovely new client, I'm right on the cusp of a super exciting milestone. @liveloudgirl and I are moving into a shared studio space... because since the inception of @fronteriors we're basically married so getting a place together seems like the obvious next step ๐Ÿ˜‚ But seriously though, we're becoming a blended tribe of sorts and we are really excited for this next chapter of creativity, with our respective teams working side by side while we steer the runaway train that is fronteriors.
The new studio is a dreamy blank canvas of endless artistic possibilities. We've already treated it to some @jotunpaintsarabia magic on the walls, but I suspect that that the evolution of this workspace will be constantly in motion. Stay tuned.

  • Forever discovering treasures in mom's office only to be told they're for someone else's room. She'll tell you that's the story of her life. Wonder where she gets that sense of drama? ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ™Ž๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿณ @bigstuffed

  • On the blog this morning is a better-late-than-never edition of our popular 'scene & heard' series. It's a look back at some of the team's summer highlights, including dreamy Netherlands coastal vibes and some Dubai gems discovered my Marli and Mila who spent a large chunk of the break locally.
