Welcome to the latest installment of Scene and Heard, a regular feature where the team shares interesting bits and bobs that we’ve recently came across. If you missed last month’s Scene & Heard, check it out here.
You may not be aware of this, but Charly is our resident DJ at House of Hawkes HQ. She keeps the atmosphere serene when stress levels are high and keeps us up to speed with what the cool kids are listening to – or so she tells us. She was super excited to share news of the collab between IKEA and Sonos . The two companies have worked together to create the Symfonisk range speakers, which showcases two different models – a bookshelf speaker and a table lamp speaker. And the best part, you will be able to control the speakers from the Sonos app. We are eagerly anticipating the release of this smart device, rumoured to launch in August.
We are pretty taken with the Shweet collection from back home, discovered (quite ironically) by Charly’s mom whilst they were visiting South Africa earlier this year. These handmade products are made from Shweshwe fabrics and we love seeing her boys sporting their proudly South African caps whenever we see them out and about.
With a sense of African heritage running high in the office, we are very excited for the launch of IKEA’s African inspired range. The Överallt collection (already in stores) features products by creatives from five African countries, including Sengalese fashion designer Selly Raby Kane, South African textile designer Laduma Ngxokolo and Kenyan design office Studio Propolis. It includes textiles that reference African landscapes, rugs made from recycled crisp packets and a bench designed to encourage socialising.
We are head-over-heels with a recent print collection discovery by Kath. Rylander Company, whom we have used before, has recently launched a small collection of prints featuring iconic personalities. These include renowned names such as Amelia Earhart, Elenor Roosevelt, Mozart, Paul Revere and Marie Curie. It’s the perfect edition to a little one’s room and we definitely plan to use them in our designs.
If you are on the lookout for a unique gift for your bambina, I have recently found the most adorable heirloom dolls from Ava Hanzel, these adorable little ladies are handmade and truly one of a kind.
